Four Chisinau lyceums fail to form parallel tenth classes

Four lyceums of Chisinau municipality didn’t manage to form parallel classes in the tenth grade, but will be able to keep their status of lyceum. However, in the future a number of lyceums could be transformed into secondary schools.

Head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has told IPN that the four lyceums that failed to form parallel tenth classes are: the Theoretical Lyceum “Matei Basarab”, the Theoretical Lyceum “Lucian Blaga”, the Theoretical Lyceum “Natalia Gheorghiu”, and the Experimental Theoretical Lyceum “Waldorf”. The regulations concerning admission to lyceums provide that a lyceum must have at least two classes in one grade. But this year they will make an exception.

Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said it is not for the first time that parallel classes cannot be formed and they are analyzing the possibility of reducing the number of lyceums so that competition between them becomes stiffer.
