Four siblings aged between one year and four years remained blocked in an apartment as their mother left them alone and went shopping. When the woman returned home, she could not enter the apartment, while the kids were unsupervised in a place that posed multiple threats to them, through the stove, windows, sockets, etc. Scared, the woman called the rescuers, IPN reports.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the case happened in Balti town. The rescue team unblocked the door in about 15 minutes. Fortunately, the children were unhurt.
Firefighters warn the parents not to leave the children unsupervised at least for short period of time. The parents with a child blocks in the home should immediately seek help by calling the emergency numbers 901, 902 and 903. There are a number of safety rules that the parents must obey. These are available in this short film.
A child left home alone can get scared. Until the firemen or rescuers arrive, the parent must be permanently in contact with the child and speak to this gently, not in a threatening tone. It is also recommended placing the locks higher so that the child does not reach it and not choosing locks that close automatically.
Information about how the children can be protected in different situations can be found at www.parinti.md, which was launched within the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Redistrict Emergency and Intensive Care Services in the Republic of Moldova) Project. During eight years, the project, in cooperation with the authorities, has warned parents about the measures to prevent home accidents involving children younger than five within the campaign “A danger-free home for your child”.
