Four of the five former MPs that were arrested earlier this month on illicit enrichment charges are now also accused of corrupting fellow lawmakers in 2015.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, it is believed the suspects acted as intermediaries for the Democratic Party, offering bribes as large as 200,000-300,000 euros to convince colleagues to defect their party and support legislation promoted by the Democrats.

The corruption was apparently successful, as a total of 14 MPs announced in December 2015 that they were leaving the Communist Party.
