Fountains from near National Hotel were cleaned, but continue to be littered

The Centru district head’s office collected the waste that accumulated in the fountains situated in front of National Hotel in Chisinau. A response to an inquiry made by IPN Agency says measures were taken to clean up the area and gather the household waste form inside the fountains and the adjoining area. The pictures taken today at the scene show the people continue to throw litter into the two fountains.

Last week, IPN News Agency reported that the fountains from near National Hotel, which have been nonfunctional since the hotel was closed, turned into a waste dump where passersby throw bottles, PET packs and other household waste.

In the September 24 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the fountains are not managed by the municipality even if the plot on which they are located is publicly owned. Ruslan Codreanu ordered to clean up the area. The General Public Amenities Division was to request the business entity that runs a store situated in the neighborhood to set up garbage bins so that the waste is not thrown in the fountains nearby.
