Those who doubt the value of the peacekeeping forces doubt the value of the lives saved, stated Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal on Saturday, during an international forum organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the dispatch of the peacekeeping troops to the Security Zone, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting the official www.gagauzia.md website. The Governor mentioned that the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru is one of the most successful such operations in the world. “Leaving aside the ideological statements of some politicians, and looking straight into facts, we can state the following: 20 years of activity of the peacekeeping troops managed to prevent a new armed conflict and secured safety in the region”, state the Governor. Mihail Formuzal claims that for as long as the peacekeeping troops were in the region, there were no civilian victims. The armed forces have authority and are respected by the citizens. “It is not an exaggeration to say that the Nistru peacekeeping operation is one of the most important successes of foreign policy in Russia’s modern history”, concluded Formuzal. This year, July 26 marked 20 years since the dispatch of Mixed Peacekeeping Forces to the Security Zone.
