Officers of the Information and Security Service (SIS) on April 7, 2009 burned the archive documents about the Service’s involvement in the work of political parties. The revelation was made by former SIS vice director Valentin Dediu in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“It wasn’t a very large archive. Competent officers of the SIS weekly compiled reports on the political parties and the Service’s relevant work, especially for the then President Vladimir Voronin,” said Valentin Dediu.
The former acting head of the SIS also said that these reports contained several pages. They had no signature or heading and the head of state received them in white envelopes with no words on them. “The number of such reports increased especially at the start of 2009, before the April 5 parliamentary elections,” stated the general.
Speaking about the archive of the former KGB in Chisinau, Valentin Dediu said that it has been kept in Tiraspol since 1991. “In force majeure situations, the archive is to be taken to a safe place. If such circumstances appear in Tiraspol, the archive will be probably moved to Moscow,” he stated.
A former employee of the KGB, Valentin Dediu had worked for many years in the SIS. When the pro-European parties came to power, he was named as vice director of the SIS. He also served as acting director of the institution for a period, after the dismissal of Gheorghe Mihai. Valentin Dediu was repeatedly accused of espionage for another state. At the end of 2013, he was discharged by presidential decree, at the request of the SIS director Mihai Balan, who invoked the necessity of reforming the institution.
