Former SIS head says charges are being fabricated against him
Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov, the former director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS), says he has evidence that criminal charges are being trumped up against him, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Reshetnikov says he possesses an audio recording with a prosecutor asking a former SIS officer, who was subsequently sentenced to 3 years in prison on unlawful wiretapping charges, to give false statements against him.
The wiretapping occurred in January-September 2009, when Reshetnikov was at the helm of the SIS.
Reshetnikov stated he will submit the evidence to the Prosecutor General's Office, but not to Valeriu Zubco himself, whom he considers to be politically partial.
According to Reshetnikov, the condemnation of the former SIS officer is yet another attempt to repress the opposition Communist Party.
Five cases involving wiretapping during Reshetnikov's tenure were sent to court. The wiretapping was performed, among others, on then opposition members Alexandru Tanase, Mihai Godea, Vitalie Nagacevschi, Serafim Urecheanu, Mihai Ghimpu and Dorin Chirtoaca.
