Two functionaries of Dermatovenerologic Dispensary and school manager arrested

The 37 searches carried out this morning to unveil a corruption scheme at the Dermatovenerologic Dispensary in Chisinau resulted in the arrest of two functionaries of the institution and of the manager of a driving school. These are investigated for passive corruption and influence peddling, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the arrested persons implemented a criminal scheme by which they facilitated admission to the medical commission for obtaining a driver’s license. As the legal procedure was avoided, the suspects collected money from the candidates.

The manager of the driving school, in collusion with employees of the Dermatovenerologic Dispensary, systematically asked and received sums of 200 to 1,000 lei for influencing members of the examination commission accept persons to medical examinations in the absence of the necessary certificates. He also collected money for helping candidates pass the theory test and practical driving test.

The anticorruption officers and prosecutors examine tens of episodes of passive corruption and influence peddling that were merged into a joint procedure.

The two functionaries of the Dermatovenerologic Dispensary and the school manager were placed under arrest for 72 hours. They face a maximum jail term of seven years.
