Former SIS director Vasile Botnari does not accept blame

The ex-director of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) Vasile Botnari was classed as a suspect in a case of unjust enrichment and was questioned. He made statements, but didn’t accept his guilt, IPN reports.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, Vasile Botnari is suspected of purchasing real estate and securities through third persons while holding public posts and registered these in the name of relatives or right-hand persons so as to hide the incomes that he could not justify legally.

As a result of the searches in four buildings and a car carried out on March 29, anticorruption prosecutors seized documents, a cellphone and an iPod that are to be examined.

The measure of preventive detention against Vasile Botnari will be decided when the prosecutors officially charge him.
