Former NBM vice governor acquitted in Laundromat case

The former vice governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) Emma Tăbîrță and another three ex-employees of the Bank were acquitted in the so-called Laundromat case. The information was confirmed for IPN by Violina Moraru, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The acquittal sentence was passed by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau. The other three former NBM employees are Matei Dohotaru, Ruslan Grate and Vladimir Țurcanu. In its decision, the court noted that the misconduct in office wasn’t confirmed.

The Laundromat case was tried between July 4, 2017 and January 4, 2023. The sentence can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.

The former vice governor and other former employees of the NBM were accused of misconduct in 2010-2014, when about US$20 billion from the Russian Federation was laundered through Moldovan bank accounts.
