Former MPs say Ghimpu should resign as head of state

Mihai Ghimpu should resign as Acting President of Moldova so that Prime Minister Vlad Filat could take on this post and the Parliament could elect the head of state in two months. This is the scenario suggested by former MPs Anatol Plugaru and Mihai Petrache. They consider it can help break the deadlock without modifying the Constitution and holding early legislative elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Mister Ghimpu should tender his resignation. The Parliament will examine it and will give the post to Premier Filat, in accordance with the Constitution. As far as we know, Filat is not against. He even dreams of this position,” Anatol Plugaru told a news conference on Wednesday. “It seems that Mihai Ghimpu and his political partners do as the Romanies – prefer to give birth to a new child than wash the dirty one. Thus, they set up a constitutional reform commission,” Plugaru added. Mihai Petrache considers that the commission will stop the process of modifying the Constitution as there will be not enough time. “The members of the Alliance for European Integration don't know what they want as they did nothing since in power, only paid two visits abroad,” Petrache said. A week ago, Plugaru and Petrache proposed invalidating the earlier two rounds of presidential election because the vote was not secret, as the law requires.
