Former IGP head investigated at liberty

The former head of the General Police Inspectorate, Ion Bodrug, who was previously detained a week ago at Chișinău International Airport, is being investigated at liberty.

Asked by IPN, the Chișinău municipality prosecutor, Ștefan Șaptefrați, said that Ion Bodrug is being investigated at liberty, while having the obligation to answer the summons of the criminal prosecution body. According to him, the former head of the IGP collaborates with the investigation and does not dodge the summons. Due to these circumstances, there were no reasons to request in court the application of another preventive measure for Ion Bodrug.

The former head of the General Police Inspectorate, Ion Bodrug, was detained on November 6, at Chișinău International Airport. He was internationally wanted since 2017. Bodrug is investigated for firearms smuggling.

Ion Bodrug, police colonel, was appointed chief of the General Police Inspectorate in March 2013, while previously holding the position of deputy minister of internal affairs. Ion Bodrug announced in March 2015 that he is leaving the police force and is transferring to the private sector.
