Former Deputy Minister of Defense Alexandru Gorgan detained at entrance to Dubasari

Alexandru Gorgan, Deputy Minister of Defense in 1991-1995, was stopped at the entrance to Dubasari in the Transnistrian region. Alexandru Gorgan has told Info-Prim Neo he was going from Pohrebea to Cocieri. He has been held for over 2 hours. The Transnistrian authorities accuse him of entering the breakaway republic illegally and threaten him he will be expelled and banned from entering Transnistria. “I refused to leave. I’m waiting for representatives of the OSCE Mission and the Unified Control Commission. I want to be issued with an official document about the violations I committed in their presence,” the former deputy minister said. Alexandru Gorgan said those checking posts were set up in order to hinder the people who want to go to Cocieri to vote in the referendum from getting to the village. The access road to Cocieri was blocked by Transnistrian militiamen.
