Former Banca de Economii president to be questioned
The ex-president of Banca de Economii (BEM) Grigori Gacikevici will be questioned by the prosecutors on February 4. He is suspected of favoring the illegal obtaining of a loan of tens of millions of lei by two companies, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Both the administration of the National Bank of Moldova and Prime Minister Vlad Filat said earlier that the persons who are responsible for the accumulation of delinquent loans at the BEM and the fraudulent management at the bank will be penalized.
On the other hand, a number of analysts said it is hard to determine the guiltiness of Gacikevici and other persons from the BEM because the legislation does not clearly say what incorrect or illegal lending policy means. It will be easier to establish what political forces or party leaders applied for loans that later became delinquent.
Grigori Gacikevici had held the post of president of Banca de Economii in 2004-2012.
According to a BEM report, in 2012 the institution sustained losses of over 300 million lei. Over 55% of all the loans are delinquent.
