Sergiu Railean, former director of the Public Services Agency, was placed for 20 days in a remand center, as ruled by the Chisinau/Ciocana District Court.

General Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Mariana Cherpec told IPN Railean was the only of the 13 suspects who has been remanded. Eleven others who were held in a corruption case were given 30 days of house arrest, and one suspect was released on bail.

On Monday, prosecutors conducted searches at the Public Services Agency and then held 13 suspects, including the former director. They are suspected of inflating the value of a contract for a massive batch of blank ID cards, with the damage being estimated at 500 million lei.
