Four men from Chisinau and Dubasari district aged between 32 and 54, who were earlier tried for very serious offenses, were arrested on suspicion that they forged money and put it into circulation through Chisinau stores, IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Police Division, the police followed the group during about two months in order to collect conclusive evidence. Upon searches at suspects’ homes, there were found forged bills of 100 lei and 1 000 lei, modern equipment, chemical substances and ink of different colors that were used to forge the national currency.

The suspects transformed authentic bills of 10 lei into bills of 20 and 50 lei, while authentic bills of 200 lei – into bills of 500 and 1 000 lei. The four admitted their guilt. They face 7 to 15 years behind bars.
