Foreign Ministry spokesman: “Admission of migrants” to Moldova is fake news

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Daniel Vodă in a post in social media referred to false information and speculations circulated on social networking sites and on some of the portals.

“I noticed that social networking sites and some of the news portals circulate false information and speculations about “particular discussions” between the authorities in Chisinau and some of the European partners on the admission of migrants. This is not true. Such discussions haven’t been held, while the dissemination and deliberate speculation using such false and misleading information are called disinformation. We should be careful what sources of information we consult,” says the spokesman’s post that is quoted by IPN.

During the last few days of the election campaign prior to the presidential elections of 2016, it had been rumored that 30,000 Syrian refugees would be admitted to the Republic of Moldova if candidate Maia Sandu won the elections. Political analysts said the manipulation of voters by this fake news had an impact on the outcome of the elections that were won by Igor Dodon.
