Foreign Ministry reacts to appointment of Transnistria’s representative to Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova reacted to the Transnistrian administration’s announcement that a ‘plenipotentiary representative’ of Transnistria to Russia was appointed. In a press release, the Ministry says the Moldovan authorities took cognizance with consternation of the recent decision of the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky to name a ‘plenipotentiary representative’ of Transnistria to Russia and to open a ‘representative office of Transnistria’ in Moscow, IPN reports.

In connection with this fact, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said this act is illegal and illegitimate given that it runs counter to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and to the generally accepted principles and international law norms.

The Ministry expects that the Russian authorities will not accept Tiraspol’s approach and will thus confirm the undertaken commitment to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, which are enshrined in the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Moldova and Russia.

According to the portal Novosti PMR, a ‘representative office of Transnistria’ was opened in Russia to help the Transnistrians who temporarily live there. In the near future, the ‘representative office’ will have a legal and economic address. The Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, in a meeting with members of Transnistria’s ‘representative office’ in Moscow, said that among its priorities are to establish relations with the Russian administration bodies, to develop the bilateral economic relations and to provide consular and legal services.
