Foreign Ministry examines offers for Moldova’s Consulate in Iasi
Experts of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry traveled to Iasi this week to study the offers of the local mayor’s office for the head office of the Consulate General of Moldova in Iasi.
Valeriu Turea, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s press office, told Info-Prim Neo that the Ministry of analyzing thoroughly the offers made by the Iasi authorities. He said that the head office must meet a number of criteria, including be located conveniently.
Earlier, the authorities of Iasi town said they will provide a free office for the Moldovan consulate.
Last week, Moldova and Romania signed the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic. Under the agreement, the about 1.2 million Moldovans living within 50 km of the Moldovan-Romanian border will travel visa-free within a similar area in Romania. They will need the passport and a special permit that will be issued by the Embassy and Consulate of Romania in Chisinau.
In order to facilitate the permit issuing process, Romanian will soon open two consulates general in Balti and Cahul.
