Foreign Minister travels to Turkey

Andrei Galbur, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and Deputy Prime Minister, made an official visit to Ankara, where he met with the Turkish President, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and the Prime Minister, IPN reports.

During the meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the head of the Moldovan diplomacy reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ condemnation of the violent coup attempt in Turkey, in July 2016, and their solidarity with the democratically elected government.

Both sides agreed that there are opportunities to advance bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership. They also discussed about the yet unharnessed potential of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

The Moldovan official also talked with Speaker Ismail Kahraman and told him about the need to enhance the bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue and to revitalize the activity of parliamentary friendship groups. Kahraman agreed and even offered to host Moldovan Speaker Andrian Candu for an official visit to Turkey.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım argued for the development of Moldo-Turkish cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian fields. Both officials expressed their interest in increasing Turkish investments in Moldovan economy and boosting the amount of trade between the two countries. Andrei Galbur and Binali Yıldırım also talked about the need to organize the 8th meeting of the Moldo-Turkish intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.

Moreover, the Turkish head of the government accepted his Moldovan counterpart Pavel Filip’s invitation to visit Moldova in the near future, also expressing his interest in visiting the Gagauz autonomous region of Moldova.
