Gheorghe Staci, deputy head of the Ialoveni district organization of the Union of Independence War Veterans, told a news conference on Friday that neither the authorities nor the international organizations are making effort to ensure the respect for the human rights in Moldova. Gheorghe Staci spoke about a case when a car with Italian license number was stopped at the border crossing point in Cosnita. The driver was taking two children and their parents to a summer camp in Molovata village of Dubasari district, where children of war veterans were invited to rest. According to the veteran, the Moldovan police officer that was nearby the border crossing point did not tell them that they could get to Molovata by another road without problems, especially because they had a foreign license number. In Cosnita, they were not allowed to cross. The border guards told them to pay €500. Otherwise, they will be arrested. The quoted source said he informed officials of the Ministry of the Interior about the case, but they said they do not have instruments of influence. He went to the OSCE Mission in Moldova. The working program was close to an end and he was told to come the next day. “Meanwhile, I found out that the driver and the family paid US$350 and returned home. The children were not taken to the summer camp. I think the attitude of the authorities and international organizations is unsatisfactory,” Gheorghe Staci said. “I told an OSCE official about what happened. He said it could have been worse.” Gheorghe Staci said the police officer who did not inform them about the way to Cosnita should be punished. He filed a relevant complaint to the administration of Dubasari district.
