Both of the candidate for mayor of Chisinau, Andrei Nastase and Ion Ceban, have equal chances in the runoff vote because the voters of the former candidates of the right will most probably vote for the candidate of the PPPDA. The issue was developed in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.
Journalist Igor Volnitski said both of the candidates have almost equal chances in the runoffs as it is clear that the voters of the other candidates of the right will support Andrei Nastase now. ”We can anticipate that both of the candidates will have over 40% of the ballot. In the case of Mister Ceban, I refer to the result achieved last Sunday. It is very interesting to see how the 17% of the vote won by Silvia Radu will be distributed as it is not clear what kind of voters she managed to attract. It is also interesting to see how the voters who didn’t take part in the first round of voting will behave now. These voters could make a difference in the runoffs,” he stated.
Spokesman for the Liberal Democratic Party Ion Terguta stated that Silvia Radu managed to attract about 7% of the voters of Ion Ceban and these will probably support Ceban in the runoffs, while the other about 10% will support Andrei Nastase. “A difference will be made by the suburban localities,” he noted.
Journalist Alex Cozer said there is a very large voting potential in the suburban communities where the turnout of voters in the first round was rather low. The anti-Nastase propaganda and the polls also affected the voter turnout. “I’m absolutely sure that this good result achieved by Andrei Nastase will inspire optimism and the turnout at the runoffs will be higher. At the same time, the Socialists also have an electoral basis as Ion Ceban was voted by about 90,000 people, while the leader of the PSRM Zinaida Grecheanyi was voted by 120,000 people in the previous mayoral elections in Chisinau,” he stated.
