Forced labor exploitation at farm in Criuleni district

A man aged 55, who runs a cattle farm in Dubasarii Vechi village of Criuleni district, was arrested for trafficking in persons for labor exploitation. The police established that the suspect exploited persons during 16 years, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the man recruited socially deprived and mentally disabled people, promising them a well-paid job. After these were brought to the farm, they were threatened with use of violence and forced to work without being remunerated.

At the farm, the police found five victims, namely a woman aged 35, two men of 45 and 47 and a child aged eight.

The suspect was placed under arrest for 20 days, while the victims were taken to the Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings for receiving the necessary assistance. The man faces seven to 15 years in jail and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
