Last night’s strong winds uprooted trees, damaged branches and electrical wires. In the capital city and other localities in central Moldova, the specialized services are dealing with the consequences of the bad weather, IPN reports.
A force majeure situation was declared in Chisinau. The Chisinau City Hall said that the extent of the damage is being gauged in order to allocate the resources needed for interventions. Separate teams will be created in each district. The decision was taken by the Chisinau Commission for Emergency Situations.
In the meantime, the efforts to alleviate the consequences continue in all the districts. “The situation is serious and we ask the citizens to be careful,” urged the local authorities.
“The high winds caused damage and the emergency response efforts cover the affected roofs, roads, street furniture, electrical wires, damaged cars and affected educational and social institutions. The situation is also serious in the suburban settlements of the capital city,” said mayor general Ion Ceban.
The bad weather also affected the circulation of public transport. The uprooted trees that fell on the roadway and contact network caused trolleybuses to stop on Șoseaua Muncești,Trandafirilor, V. Dokuceaev, Columna streets and on the access road to the village of Trușeni. The trolleybuses were towed away and emergency response teams intervened to restore the contact networks. A number of 37 routes could not be made. All the trolleybuses and buses are now running according to the established itineraries and schedules.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that 100 uprooted trees were removed from roadways. There were reported ten cases of downed electrical wires. The police and firefighters were alerted to unblock routes and also to take away uprooted trees in Orhei city, where over 30 cases were handled. Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations removed a tree that fell over a gas pipe on a street in Orhei. The rescue, police and carabineer crews intervened mainly in the capital city, where 66 trees were taken away from roads, yards and from parked vehicles.
As a result of the unfavorable weather conditions, 130 localities in nine districts, the municipality of Chisinau and ATU Gagauzia were partially disconnected from the power supply. On the morning of June 12, 86 localities in nine districts were partially without electricity.
According to the data of the 112 Service, the number of calls as a result of the thunderstorm increased by almost 50% to 750 per hour. The people reported cases of damaged electrical wires, downed trees and damaged cars.
The population is urged to avoid downed electrical cables and broken branches and in situations of risk to urgently call the 112 Service.
