The initiative group “For Moldova” Saturday brought a tricolor in front of the Embassy of Romania, saying that it is the flag of Romania and that it was lost by the participants in the Union March staged in Chisinau on March 25. The protesters demanded that Romania should not interfere in Moldova’s internal affairs, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Caldare, a member of the initiative group, said the flag was found trampled in the Great National Assembly Square. “This flag was lost by the Romanian legionnaires during the Union March. We took it and brought it to the Romanian Embassy in a civilized way,” he stated. As nobody went out of the Embassy’s building, Igor Caldare said the Embassy’s officials should contact them privately if they want the flag back. The leader of the Party “Moldova’s Patriots” Mihail Garbuz told the journalists that the aim of the peaceful protest was to maintain the independence and sovereignty of Moldova with the force of civil society. “We, as educated people, brought the flag of Romania to the Embassy, not like those who burned the battle flag of Stephan the Great,” he said. One of the members of the initiative group Grigore Kuznetsov carried a placard with the words: “We will not yield Moldova up to the Romanians”. “The Romanians want to occupy Moldova and destroy us as people. They pose a threat to our country. We are Moldovans, not Romanians, and our language is the Moldovan,” he stressed. “I’m Moldovan and I speak Moldovan. I came to say these words to those who every day come to my home and say that I am Romanian,” stated another protester, Igor Munteanu. The protest involved about 50 persons.
