For the roads in Chisinau to look like those in Europe, the drivers must pay taxes as in Europe, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said in the program “In Depth” on Pro TV channel, IPN reports.
“If we afford to buy European cars and diesel fuel at European prices, it means that we can pay the relevant taxes too. Normally, the tax should be €50 to €100 per car,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
According to the mayor, the area of roads repaired in the municipality of Chisinau over the last six years is larger than that repaired during the previous 15 years. There are yet roads that haven’t been fully repaired for 50 years. But this problem cannot be solved immediately.
Dorin Chirtoaca also said that minimum 500 million lei needs to be annually invested in the road infrastructure. But the municipal budget does not yet include such a sum.
The mayor stated that among the streets that were completely or partially repaired over the last few years are Mihai Viteazul, Alba Iulia, Trandafirilor, Grigore Vieru, Petricani, Muncesti, and Vadul lui Voda.
