Footballers of CSKA Sofia refuse to play against Zimbru

CSKA Sofia, which is Zimbru’s opponent in the second qualifying round of Europa League, was struck by a scandal. The Bulgarian press reported that the players want to boycott this evening’s match in protest at the administration of CSKA.

The footballers haven’t received their salaries for several months and announced that they will not play if they are not paid.

Zimbru coach Oleg Kubarev considers that this thing will not advantage the team. “We must concentrate on our game. We are not interested in what’s going on in our opponent team. We don’t know them well,” he stated in a news conference before the match.

The coach of CSKA praised Zimbru. “Zimbru’s defense is very good and it is a well organized team. Despite everything, we intend to qualify,” said Stoycho Mladenov.

Zimbru met a Bulgarian team 11 years ago and managed to qualify. The ‘yellow greens’ eliminated Litex Loveci with a general score of 2-0. Instead, CSKA Sofia beat Constructorul 14 years ago with a general score of 11-2 in the UEFA Cup.

The encounter between CSKA Sofia and Zimbru will take place at the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia today, at 8:30pm. The return game will be played in Chisinau in a week.
