Football fan area installed in Chisinau central plaza

A Football Fans Village with a capacity to accommodate a crowd of 10,000 has been installed outside the Government building, in the National Assembly Square, in time for the inaugural game of the Euro-2012 between Poland and Greece at 18:00 local time, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Football Village is a joint initiative of the Chisinau Mayor's Office and the Embassies of Poland and Ukraine in Moldova. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference Thursday that such events could become a tradition. “Such manifestations take place in many European capitals. I even saw such a village installed outside the European Parliament in Brussels”, said Dorin Chirtoaca. The Mayor called on those who would come to the village to watch the Euro-2012 matches to display a proper behavior. Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Serhiy Pyrozhkov has stated that it is the first time that his country organizes such a major event in the world of football and the Ukrainian authorities took all the steps to ensure that it is successful. “I hope that the event in Chisinau will be successful too and such projects will be implemented in the future as well”. Marcin Nosal, chargé d'affaires at the Polish Embassy, praised the idea of organizing areas for football fans in the center of the city and invited all the residents and guests of Chisinau to visit the Football Village and watch the games live. The organizers revealed that only in the Football Village will the fans be able to watch all the Euro-2012 matches in real time, whereas the television will show recorded games in case of overlap. The Village has been installed in such a way so as not to hinder vehicle traffic.
