The food security strategy should be finalized next week and presented to the public for consultations. Such a request was made by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu in the Cabinet meeting. According to the Premier, predictability should be ensured given the current difficult situation, IPN reports.
Natalia Gavrilița said that changes were made to the budget and it should be very clear how and where additional financial resources are redirected now that it was decided to fully cover the excise duty on diesel fuel for SMEs. It was also discussed the subsidization per liter of milk, but the implementation mechanism is yet to be agreed. The authorities also aim to increase the storage capacities.
“All these things covered by the strategy should be finalized and the document should be consulted with everyone so as to ensure predictability and to avoid anxiety in the sector. Everyone realizes that autumn will be difficult owing to the war in Ukraine, primarily as regards logistics,” stated Natalia Gavrilița.
Minister Viorel Gherciu said the draft strategy will be ready for internal consultations at the beginning of next week and this will be presented to the public towards the weekend.
Premier Gavrilița also instructed the Ministry of Environment to design a program for supplying the socially deprived people with firewood. Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari said the draft decision on the reformation of social assistance that extends the program is almost ready. The program to reduce energy vulnerability is also being drafted. Targeted subsidies are to be allocated for the consumed electricity, gas and heat.
