This coming Sunday Moldova is celebrating the National Folk Wear Day. On this occasion, thematic activities will be held in Chisinau and elsewhere in the country.
The series of events is organized by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the Orheiul Vechi Cultural-Natural Reserve and the National Center for the Conservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The celebration will start at 11:00 a.m. at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in Chisinau, as well as at the Orheiul Vechi Cultural-Natural Reserve. The agenda includes an exhibition of high-waisted shirts and traditional costumes from public and private collections, folk music performances, a fair of folk craftsmen, and creative workshops for the public. Admission is free.
This year’s Folk Wear Day is dedicated in particular to the introduction of the embroidered blouse (camașă cu altiță), an element of traditional garment that Moldova shares with Romania, in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Introduced in 2015, the Folk Wear Day is celebrated annually in Moldova on the last Sunday of June.
