The about 100,000 influenza vaccines that were to be donated to Moldova by the U.S Center for Vaccine Equity haven’t yet reached the country. Contacted by IPN for details, Ștefan Gheorghiță, division head at the National Public Health Agency, said he does not know when and if these shots will come.

Update: Ștefan Gheorghiță said that during the last discussion with representatives of the donors on December 18, these said they are having negotiations with a producer from the UK and will inform about the delivery time later.

Another 100,000 flu shots bought by the National Health Insurance Company reached Moldova in the course of November. The vaccines are used to immunize persons with an increased infection risk, like the persons with chronic diseases, elderly people and invalids in ole people’s homes, health system employees, police officers and service members and persons who form party of the administration of the central and local public authorities.

A week ago, a girl aged 14 died at the Cahul District Council being diagnosed with respiratory insufficiency, bilateral pneumonia and septic shock. Lab tests confirmed the presence of the A(H3N2) influenza virus. According to the health authorities, this is the first case of death the current flu season.
