The 200,000 flu shots donated to Moldova by the U.S. Center for Vaccine Equity, which were made by a Chinese company, arrived in the country. The consignment costs about US$ 1.8 million. This year only persons facing an increased infection risk will be vaccinated, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the vaccines were taken to the National Vaccines Store of the National Public Health Center and will be distributed to public health facilities in the immediate period.
Later, there will be launched the campaign to immunize the professional contingents and those with an increased infection risk, such as persons with chronic diseases, children from orphanages, health professionals and employees of the border guards and carabineer troops, the Emergencies Service and the Customs Service, and of social assistance institutions.
Before being administered the vaccine, the patient should have a pre-vaccination medical examination. Those who will have a reaction to any of the components of the vaccine and persons who suffer from particular acute and severe chronic diseases and progressive diseases of the nervous system will not be immunized.
As many as 200,000 persons were vaccinated during the 2016-2017 flu season. Three unvaccinated persons with preexistent maladies died from flu.
During the last two seasons (2015-2017), the vaccines were provided by the U.S. Center for Vaccine Equity, which is a program of the Task Force for Global Health – 150,000 and 200,000 flu shots respectively. These were fully used and had no side effects. Moldova has cooperated with the Task Force for Global Health since 2015.
