The flu epidemiological situation in the Republic of Moldova is under the epidemiological level. Morbidity through acute upper respiratory tract infections during January 15-21 stood at 225 cases per 100,000 people. Six cases of clinical seasonal flu were recorded during the monitored week, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, in the period there were reported 803 new cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections, which is an increase of 16.9% compared with the previous monitored period and a decrease of 21.1% compared with the corresponding period of the previous season. The acute respiratory infections accounted for 3.3% of the total number of admissions to the hospital, regardless of the cause.
In the period, the Viral Infections Lab of the National Public Health Center examined 40 samples for the presence of flu and non-flu viruses. The type B flu virus was detected in two cases, while the presence of non-flu viruses was identified in ten samples. The persons diagnosed with flu received medical care.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection recommends the population to take all the prophylaxis measures, to listen to the advice of doctors, to respect the hygiene rules and to immediately see a doctor when the first symptoms appear without resorting to self-medication.
