Flu claims one more live

One more person died after developing flu-related complications. It is a woman aged 54 from Nicoreni village of Drochia district. The number of deaths from flu this season thus rose to five, IPN has learned from the National Public Health Center.

Employees of the Center’s focal unit have told IPN that the woman hadn’t been immunized. She was diagnosed with respiratory insufficiency and pneumonia. The lab results confirmed that she was infected with the AH1N1 flu virus.

According to the Center, the epidemiological ceiling as regards acute respiratory infections was exceeded last week. More than 300 persons have flu.

Contacted by IPN, the Center’s vice director for epidemiological surveillance Stefan Gheorghita said the number of hospitalized persons didn’t increase much, but more beds will be placed in hospitals if necessary.

The Ministry of Health said that two nurseries in Straseni and Calarasi district, a lyceum in Taraclia district and a secondary school in Sangerei district were closed because of the high number of respiratory infections recorded there. A fourth grade class of the theoretical lyceum of Cairaclia in Taraclia was also closed.
