Flu causes another death in Moldova

A woman aged 63 diagnosed with A(H1N1) flu, acute bacterial respiratory infection and bilateral pneumonia died last week in Râșcani district. The woman hadn’t been vaccinated against flu. This is the second case of death associated with flu. A 54-year-old woman from Balti municipality died from flu complications in the middle of last month, IPN reports.

Fifteen cases of seasonal flu were recorded during December 24 – 30, 2018. Eight of these were confirmed by lab tests. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the epidemiological situation for flu is below the epidemic level.

Morbidity through acute infections of the upper respiratory tract was 190.12 cases per 100,000 people and is also below the epidemic level. Almost 7,000 cases of acute infections of the upper respiratory tract were also recorded during December 24 – 30.

Specialists warn the population to immediately see a doctor when symptoms of disease appear. The patients should be isolated at home and hospitalized, if necessary. Those who are exposed to the risk of infection, pregnant women, immunocompromised persons, those with cardiovascular and chronic respiratory system diseases and diabetes and those who are obese should avoid contact with sick persons.
