Today is a sad day for the United States and for the entire world, when 18 years have passed since the terrorist attack in which more than three thousand people lost their lives and another six thousand were injured. The statement belongs to Prime Minister Maia Sandu who, in solidarity with the American people, laid flowers at the US Embassy, in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

"Terrorism is not an issue that concerns individual countries. Terrorism, unfortunately, targets all of us, which means that we all have to make efforts to prevent such dramas. The Republic of Moldova, even with its modest resources in terms of combating terrorism, will do everything in its power and will provide the necessary information in order to contribute to peace and to reduce the risks of terrorism. We came here to express condolences to the American ambassador and to the American people regarding this great tragedy", said Maia Sandu, quoted in a press release issued by the government.

"We have been and will continue to firmly stand, through the institution that I represent, but also other state institutions, alongside the US, in their efforts to combat global terrorism. Terrorism has no borders, it has no limits, and it must be countered”, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrei Năstase, present at the flowers laying ceremony.

On September 11, 2001, four passenger planes were hijacked - two of which destroyed the Twin Towers in New York. Another plane crashed over the Pentagon building, while the fourth did not reach its target, crashing in a field after the passengers fought back against their hijackers.
