The carpet flower laid out in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in central Chisinau will be disassembled and the about 200,000 flowers will be replanted in green areas in the capital city, IPN.

Galina Leahu, deputy head of the Green Areas Association, in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, said the largest part of the flowers will be planted in the central park and in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral, while about 60,000 flowers will be planted in the middle of rotaries in the districts of the capital city.

Acting mayor Silvia Radu said the flowers were imported and were bought at a price that was by 30% lower than the domestic market price. A flower cost about 11 lei. The Chisinau City Hall is having talks with the Government to give a hothouse to the Green Areas Association where to grow flowers for the city and to sell some, as other companies do.

Earlier, the Liberal Party requested the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office to start a criminal case against Silvia Radu over the fraudulent management of financial resources. According to the Liberals, Silvia Radu rigged the tender contest to purchase flowers as the City Hall didn’t obey the bidding rules and favored a business entity.

The carpet flower in central Chisinau cost the municipality 1.8 million lei.
