170 homes were flooded in the village of Nemteni, Hancesti district, and some of them fell apart after the local dam collapsed. People lost their domestic animals, their goods and documents to the high waters of the Prut. The damage will be assessed only when the water retreats. The residents of the village say they have nothing to eat and they are also running out of drinking water. “Today only the people involved in relief activities had food. But this is not what my mind has been at all day, I have been thinking about how I lost everything overnight”, says Gheorghe Rata, a man from Nemteni. People are offered shelter at the local school, but only one person accepted to stay there, as most peasants prefer to go to their relatives or friends.
