The threat of floods at the facilities pumping water for Chisinau from the Nistru near the suburban town of Vadul lui Voda is still high, with authorities naming two critical hours – 12:00 and 18:00. “The looming avalanches may erupt into a state of emergency”, stated Constantin Becciev, the manager of Chisinau's water supplier Apa-Canal ACC, at an extraordinary City Hall meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. If the facilities are flooded, ACC will supply water to the consumers in Chisinau according to a special schedule which will be made known to the general public. Most probably, tap water will be available for four hours in the morning and for another four hours in the evening. Where water supply will be impossible for technical reasons, water will be available in tanks. However, the ACC manager advised consumers to make reserves of water. Constantin Becciev informed ACC's reservoirs held 160,000 cubic meters of drinking water, plus 30,000 cubic meters in artesian wells. “I believe we'll handle the situation even if the pumping facilities are flooded” said Becciev, remarking that it would take two days to set the facilities back in motion in the event of a flooding. Companies owning artesian wells in Chisinau will be asked, if need be, to supply drinking water to the municipal supplier at standard rates. Currently, the 60 artesian wells in Vadul lui Voda have been sealed to protect them from outside waters. All the children have been evacuated from Vadul lui Voda spas and summer camps, with the local beach being flooded. The access to the zone continues to be restricted as some 200 of police staff mounted a round-the-clock patrol. Mayor Iurie Onofriiciuc of Vadul lui Voda assured there was no risk for homes being flooded, unlike the facilities near the beach.
