Dozens of volunteers of the Civic Platform “Actiunea 2012” gathered together in the Principates Union Square in Chisinau, where they chanted “Union is power” and sang unionist songs on the occasion of 154 years of the union of the two Romanian principates - Moldova and the Romanian Country. The organizers said they staged the flashmobbing in order to attract the competent authorities’ attention to the necessity of renovating the Principates Union Square, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Where there is a unionist man, there are members of the unionist family and the mother land is unionist. We want to show everyone that the young people are for union, have verticality, know the history and are sure that together we will win. The union will take place,” said Sorin Becciu, a member of the initiative group “Romanian Spirit”. Another young man, Sergiu Grosu, said that even if the event brought together only about 50 young people, the unionist ideals are shared by much more people. “We are many in number and know that our ideal will triumph,” he stated. Anatol Revenko, deputy chairman of the National Liberal Party, said that there are yet persons in Moldova who share other values than the unionist ones, but this happens only because they have been influenced by other beliefs for 70 years, when there were imposed other ideals and another culture. The supporters of Moldova’s union with Romania staged similar events in several towns, including Romania’s capital Bucharest. On January 5, 1859, Alexandru Ioan Cuza was elected ruler of Moldova, while on January 24, 1859 as rule of the Romanian Country too. Thus, the two Romanian principates were united.
