Flashmobbing in support of alternatives to imprisonment

A group of volunteers of the Penal Reform Institute has staged a flashmob meeting on the occasion of the Human Rights Day on December 10, asking that the authorities institute the punishment with community service for those who commit minor offenses, Info-Prim Neo reports. Irina Mosnoi, a volunteer of the Penal Reform Institute, said the alternatives to imprisonment will help the persons who committed minor offenses to become integrated into society. When imprisoned, these people risk adopting aggressive and inappropriate behaviors. Moreover, it is more costly to hold the persons who committed minor offenses in prisons than to organize community service. “These people deserve the second chance if they admit that they made a mistake and should not be discriminated and separated from the family,” said the volunteer. The community service is set for 60 to 240 hours, from 2 to 4 hours a day. This punishment cannot be imposed on invalids with the first and second disability degree and servicemen working on contract, pregnant women who have small children and the persons who reached retirement.
