A child aged five from Recea village of Straseni district collapsed under the thin ice of a local lake in the afternoon of December 25. The minor, together with another child aged three, weren’t supervised by grownups when the tragedy happened, IPN reports, quoting the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service.

Rescuers were informed about this case when the child was taken out of the water, but he was already dead then. The body was recovered after locals alerted the police. The other child wasn’t hurt.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, two children drowned in ponds in Moldova in the cold period of 2015. The rescuers warn those who look after minors not to leave them unsupervised. Walking on ice is dangerous when the ice is thinner than 8 cm. It won’t be safe to walk on ice in the immediate period owing to the weather conditions.
