Five streets in central Chisinau to be fully repaired within a project financed by EBRD

The Chisinau City Hall plans to fully rehabilitate five streets in the center of the capital city from next spring. It is a new project implemented by the City Hall in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, to the value of €22 million, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on Friday, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the €22 million are provided by the EBRD for a period of 10 years, with a grace period of two years. The project was approved by the EBRD Board of Directors on November 4 and is to be additionally approved by the EIB Board on November 22. The project is to be also endorsed by the responsible commissions of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The contract will be signed in Chisinau on December 2. According to the mayor, the project is different from the other projects implemented until now as the works will be much more extensive. There will be replaced the sidewalks, the underground piping system, the parking lots and the public lighting, in accordance with the European standards. The streets that will be filly repaired are: Stefan cel Mare, Constantin Negruzzi, Tighina, Vasile Alecsandri, 31 august and Alexandru cel Bun. Dorin Chirtoaca said these streets were selected by the EBRD experts who worked in Chisinau for several months. They were chosen out of 20 streets taking into account the volume of traffic and the possible economic impact. The program covers 2012 and 2013.
