Five protesting veterans escorted to police station

Altercations between Nistru war veterans and police officers started in front of the Parliament Building when the first allegedly tried to put up tents there during a protest. A number of veterans were taken to the police station.

Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Diana Fetco said the police officers escorted five persons to the Buiucani Police Station. They are to be identified. The press officer at the current stage could not say the reasons for such an act.

The veterans came to the Parliament Building to hand over their demands and proposals for improving the country’s socioeconomic situation to the Speaker. They said a number of veterans were intimidated at home so that they didn’t attend the protest. Vehicles with persons going to the protest were stopped on the way to Chisinau.

While the protest was ongoing, Parliament adopted in the final reading a bill to include the veterans in the category of persons for whom the health insurance is paid by the state.
