Five Polish films about freedom screened in Chisinau

Five Polish movies about freedom started to be shown in Chisinau within the Polish Film Days staged by the Polish Institute of Bucharest on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of communism in Poland, IPN reports.

In the opening of the Polish Film Days, Polish Institute in Bucharest director Maja Wawrzyk said that this year is very special for Poland because it marks 25 years of the fall of communism, 15 years of the entry into NATO and 10 years of the entry into the EU. “We have enjoyed democracy for a quarter of century, have lived in safety for 15 years, while for 10 years Poland has been continuously developing owing to the European fund,” she stated.

Maja Wawrzyk noted that freedom is important and effort must be made to preserve its values, once they are obtained, as they can be lost. A danger threatening freedom and democracy derives from the regional context. “The films about freedom, which will be screened within this festival, were selected especially for this event,” she said.

According to Maja Wawrzyk, the first movie that will be shown – “Ida” – is the most famous in Poland and abroad and was nominated for Oscar. The other films that will be screened daily until November 25 are: “To want to live”, “Baby blues”, “A ticket to the moon”, and “In the name”.

The Polish Film Days are hosted by the Odeon Movie Theater. Tickets to the films cost 25 lei. Screenings start at 7pm. The movies are subtitled in Romanian.
