Five persons were arrested following last week’s clashes between the police and street vendors who illegally traded near the Central Market of Chisinau. These face up to three years in jail if they are found guilty, deputy head of the Chisinau Police Division Silviu Musuc said in the June 19 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.
Three persons were arrested for 72 hours. One person was placed in remand detention for 30 days, while the fifth is under house arrest. The five are investigated for threatening or using violence against a person holding a responsible post or a person fulfilling public duties. An employee of the National Patrolling Inspectorate and two carabineers were hurt in last week’s clashes.
Silviu Musuc noted that the activities to combat street trading covered the section of Varlaam St between the streets Bulgara and Tighina inclusive.
Vice director of the municipal enterprise Central Market Victor Gutium said the selling places available in the fruit and vegetables sector were filled last weekend. About 100 places are yet available in the pavilion located near Tighina St. The administration of the Central Market is making effort to satisfy the demand for selling places.
