Five people died in a road accident near Codreanca village of Straseni district. The call to the 112 Service was received at 09:23 a.m. Following the impact, two cars were engulfed in flames. There were a number of people inside, IPN reports.

The General Police Inspectorate said that it was preliminarily established that one of the drivers did not make sure that it was safe and, performing the overtaking maneuver over the solid line, collided head-on with a car coming from the opposite direction. Following the impact, the two transport units started to burn.

Until the arrival of rescuers, the people managed to take an adult and three children out of the Mitsubishi car. Two other minors were taken out of the Opel car. The injured were taken to hospital.

Five people from the two cars could not be saved. Their carbonized bodies were taken out by firefighters.

The fire was extinguished. Both cars were completely destroyed by flames.

Update /01:43 p.m./ The five children who were saved from the two cars engulfed in flames, two boys and three girls aged between 1 and 13 years, were taken to the Mother and Child Institute. Three of them are in the Intensive Care Unit. Two are being examined in the Emergency Reception Unit and it will be decided where they will be transferred, Maxim Cazacu, spokesman for the medical institution, has told IPN.
