Five new trolleybuses are in the process of being assembled by the Chisinau Electric Transport Company. The vehicles, costing €160,000 apiece, will feature air conditioning systems, security cameras and USB sockets for the passengers, IPN reports.
The new trolleybuses are the first ones from the lot of 17 trolleybuses that were purchased from the Belarus company Belkommunmash, the City Hall said in a press release.
Ten of them are the standard kind, five others have batteries for autonomous running, and two are articulated. To be delivered in September, the latter are expected to help with the increased ridership during peak hours.
The 2019 city budget has allocated 72 million lei for buying new trolleybuses.
