Five new polling places will be set up in Chisinau for September 5 referendum

Five new polling places will be opened in Chisinau for the September 5 constitutional referendum, the secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council Valeriu Didencu said in Monday’s ordinary meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. As many as 302 polling places will be set up in the municipality of Chisinau overall, including 55 in the suburban settlements. The persons who will outfit these places have been already designated. The district heads’ offices are close to finishing compiling the electoral rolls so that the local authorities meet the schedule approved by the Central Election Commission, Valeriu Didencu said. Asked by the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca about the pilot-project to test the electronic register of voters, the head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban said a number of modules of the state-run automated information system “Elections” will be put into practice at the polling places. They will allow for rerun voting and will improve the quality of the electoral rolls. The names of the voters will be checked in the database of the Central Election Commission, according to the identification code written in the identity card, several minutes before casting their votes.
