Five-month-old child dies from flu

A child aged five months from Falesti town died several days ago, being diagnosed with type B flu, bilateral pneumonia, meningoencefalitis of unspecified nature and septicemia. This wasn’t vaccinated against seasonal flu, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said the flu epidemiological level is low. During April 9-15, there were reported 955 new cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections, which is a decrease of 7.8% compared with a week ago and an increase of 8.6% compared with the corresponding period of the previous season. Twenty-two cases of flu were recorded in the mentioned period.

The viral infections laboratories of the National Public Health Agency checked 20 samples for flu and non-flu viruses. The flu virus B was detected in eight samples, the flu virus A(H1N1)pdm09 in four samples and non-flu viruses in four samples.

Six cases of death were reported in the current flu season, including of the child aged five months. Among the victims were three women, a man and a teen.
